AN*NA Follow-up Project to Naht
Sub-module within the KliBUp Research Network

The climate crisis is also a health crisis. Institutions such as hospitals and long-term care facilities face the pressing challenge of adapting to climate-related changes and developing viable concepts for sustainable healthcare provision. However, such concepts should not be imposed solely in a top-down manner, but rather emerge as much as possible from a bottom-up approach, shaped by the perspectives of those directly affected. Only when staff are actively involved in the development process can tailored and feasible solutions be created—solutions that strengthen both resilience and the capacity for action within the organisations.

The research consortium "Climate and Health in Everyday Settings – Developing Strategies and Approaches to Promote Resilience through Bottom-Up Models (KliBUp)" provides scientific support for existing practical approaches and measures to promote climate-related health in settings such as early childhood education, long-term care, and local communities. Particular emphasis is placed on participation and community resilience. The aim is to identify factors that support or hinder individual and collective participation and self-efficacy in the context of climate protection and adaptation measures. The consortium is led by the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin and the Berlin School of Public Health, represented by Professor Raimund Geene, Professor Olaf Neumann, and Professor Gesine Bär. It has received funding of approximately 1.3 million euros as part of the BMBF programme "Supporting intervention studies for healthy and sustainable living conditions and lifestyles."

The sub-project “AN*NA – Follow-up to Naht” investigates how ideas developed in the Naht project for sustainable and Planetary Health-oriented action by nursing professionals can be integrated into the hospital setting. In Naht, participants gain knowledge about the health impacts of the climate crisis and develop concrete proposals for action. AN*NA builds on this foundation by supporting healthcare institutions in creating participatory opportunities to further develop and implement these ideas. The aim is to systematically analyse the potential of these bottom-up approaches and to evaluate their contribution to the structural integration of Planetary Health within the hospital setting.
